The Emerald Empress - Redesigned!

"The Emerald Empress -  Redesigned!" from Legion of Super-Heroes vol.7 #19 (DC, 2013) by Paul Levitz, Keith Giffen and Scott Kolins
Gah! I am so OVER the I - Eye pun. Here and in OMAC.

With no reboot for the Legion (surprise, surprise), the New 52 version is just volume 6 continued, with all its qualities and flaws. Only recently has the book become more exciting, as Giffen returned to do some art and plotting, but quickly leaving to do... He-Man projects?! Whatever. The book is being cancelled and what lies ahead for the Legion is uncertain. Rumors say something called Justice Legion as DC rebrands every book to fit the Batman, Lantern or Justice League label.

  1. You know, I've seen some ridiculous and uncomfortable female costumes in comics over the years...but that one simply boggles the mind.

  2. Agreed, SallyP, that costume is just bad and the character seems crazy. I recall her as being calm and deadly.

  3. The new Emerald Empress was introduced early in this new run - and her madness can be explained by partly her being a slave who escaped and killed her masters, and of course the Eye's own vampiric energy.
Actually, if you want to get REALLY tired of the 'Eye/I' comments, take a look at L.E.G.I.O.N 90, where the Eye makes its first chronological appearance, and the dreadful. ghastly Bek married couple become the dual hosts of it - its all 'Eye' this, 'I' that.
I agree about the hair here though....isn't it dreadful??? Reminds me of one of Darkseid's Female Furies.

  4. Giffen and Kolins definitely worship at Kirby's altar.
