Whipped

"Whipped" from Catwoman vol.3 #4 (DC, 2002) by Ed Brubaker, Darwyn Cooke and Mike Allred
Catwoman's next phase is very different, and is something I really want to sample when I find the time. The animated series aesthetic, hearing good things about Brubaker and later, Pfeiffer, and... Slam Bradley in the supporting cast? I feel like I really missed something by not being a bigger Catwoman fan. I like the IDEA of the character, but every time I've given one of her series a shot (including Gotham Sirens), I've been left wanting. So is the one Selina Kyle series I skipped entirely the one that was done for me?

  1. I'm with you. I disliked the grape-colored costume, but then I tend to hate purple costumes across the board.

  2. This was an ... awkward series for me. After the highly sexual Balent run Selina was now looking like a small child drawn by Cooke. There was much more attempt to build up the mythology of Catwoman in the Batworld tho, which was welcome for me. Had a delightful retro quality to it. The only thinh I didnt like much was the inclusion of Holly who was written out fast early in Balent's run and now hung around here. And dont get me started on Sel having a baby...
I like the purple myself. Its the colour of royalty [Selina being the queen of thieves] and madness, and speaks/hints to the Earth-2 version of her and Bat's daughter the Huntress.

  3. Purple is the power color all the ladies at the bank wear. I don't like banks very much. For the obvious reasons.
